Branden has been a film fan since he was young, roaming the halls of Blockbuster Video, trying to find the grossest, scariest looking VHS covers to rent and watch alone in the basement. It wasn’t until recently, though, that Branden started seeking out the classics of cinema, and began to develop his true passion for the art form. Branden approaches each film with the unique perspective of having studied the art from the inside, having both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in acting. He has been a film critic since 2010, and has previously written for Inside Pulse Movies, We Love Cult, and Diehard Gamefan. His biggest achievement as a film critic, to date, has been founding Cinefessions and turning it from a personal blog to a true film website, housing hundreds of film and television reviews, and dozens of podcasts.
Hey guys. Finally all caught up. Seems like you have also been hampered with real life problems interfering with standard operating procedure lol. Either way still great podcasts and I actually haven’t had chance to rewatch the directors cut of Army of Darkness yet so i will at least be able to that done before you review it.
Loving the series by the way just like you guys. Agree with all you say. Special effects have on the whole been impressive, the comedy has been great, over all I’m just amazed at the writing and how fast these episodes go. They really are lean and succinct. Episode 5 was the first on that did feel a little bit “filler” but even that included a moderate character death. All in all I’m so impressed with this series. I love Bruce Campbell, as I’m sure we all do. And just watching this show has made me want to rewatch all of Burn Notice as he was great in that!
Couple of other little points. We do not celebrate thanksgiving in UK. In fact a vast majority of British people wouldn’t be able to tell you the date. A vast majority wouldn’t even get the month right. And an even higher percentage would not be able to name you one American football team!! It’s shocking and I’m talking more about the general population and not the well educated folk. So we don’t have any days where we celebrate by eating vast amounts of food. I suppose on November the 5th we have Guy Fawkes (Bonfire) night. Where we all go stand in muddy fields and watch an effigy of Guy Fawkes be burned on a bonfire while fireworks are set off, although in recent years they have largely removed the effigy and even the bonfire and now its just watching some fireworks go bang. Its rather drab in my opinion.
One day we have recently taken from our transatlantic cousins, much to my original dismay is Black Friday. The one just past was Englands third black Friday. Originally I hated it. The first two were awful!!! Crowds of people fighting and pushing each other to grab large screen tvs. I found the whole thing hugely embarrassing and would never personally give up my dignity to behave that way. I couldn’t believe the scenes in America when I saw them on google!!! I mean shit!! Didn’t a wal mart worker die on your black Friday! There has been quite a back lash in England over black Friday with most people looking down on the working poor (whom are most often the ones fighting each other for the products) and this year it was tremendously scaled down. Like yourself Branden, most black Friday shopping took place online this year and we didn’t have the embarrassing scenes in our stores. I actually felt safe enough to take my 3 yr old daughter to the stores this year and all was very calm and dignified. So hopefully as long as we have adopted this American ‘tradition’ we can continue to enjoy it like relaxed informed consumers. In fact one made his very first black Friday purchase this year. I purchased myself a new mobile phone at a good discount so I’m very happy with that.
Anyway. Great podcast. Keep up the great work. I’m looking forward to your next youtube video. Also sorry I did have some ideas about where to take Cinefessions on youtube. First and foremost I think we would love to see videos of your podcasts. That would be enjoyable. Second of all I think that possibly retrospective reviews would be a good possibility. Have you seen Oliver Harper youtube reviews. Something along those lines could be really interesting. Obviously focused mainly on horror, cult, sci fi etc, include clips from the films, info on budget, box office and even recommendations??
Take care guys
Ha! Thanks for clearing up the Thanksgiving question, Brent. I’m glad you enjoyed your Black Friday this year! I have a video going live later this week with all my purchases that you’ll hopefully check out. And thank you so much for the ideas. I don’t know the person you named on YouTube, but I will definitely check him out. One of the first things I hope to start is a retro review series focusing on horror, sci-fi, and cult cinema just as you mentioned. I really appreciate the feedback, and the fact that you always listen, and respond to us. It’s always great to hear from you! Thanks again.
