Branden has been a film fan since he was young, roaming the halls of Blockbuster Video, trying to find the grossest, scariest looking VHS covers to rent and watch alone in the basement. It wasn’t until recently, though, that Branden started seeking out the classics of cinema, and began to develop his true passion for the art form. Branden approaches each film with the unique perspective of having studied the art from the inside, having both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in acting. He has been a film critic since 2010, and has previously written for Inside Pulse Movies, We Love Cult, and Diehard Gamefan. His biggest achievement as a film critic, to date, has been founding Cinefessions and turning it from a personal blog to a true film website, housing hundreds of film and television reviews, and dozens of podcasts.
Hey guys. Sorry for the late comment. Its been crazy for me last two weeks. I’m gonna try give some thoughts but its been a while since I watched the episode but I did just re listen to the podcast so that helped refresh my memory.
First of all I just love the chemistry between you guys. It is top notch banter. It really makes listening enjoyable. And Branden’s enthusiasm is really infectious. Chris is really funny with his whole nonchalant attitude and Ashe is a great mediator between you two.
I have to say that my instinct is that I agree with Branden. I really liked these two episodes and found them both enjoyable and intriguing. I liked the storylines that Branden likes however I think its awesome to have Chris’s perspective on the show. I would really hate to think that I’m being pandered to by “liberal” show writers who populate the episode with gay characters and transgender storylines. I really do like both those storylines and they are funny and sad at times. I find it great that mainstream media has now become gay friendly but am also weary of producers going after the “pink dollar” with over blown stereotypes. Most gay stereotypes on tv are truly awful and offensive but I personally felt a realism in the portrayal in Sense8. However maybe Chris’s knows more about this.
Also just a quick point to say that both beard and fag hag are commonly used phrases in the UK and are not offensive to the gblti community.
I still am confused as to how the powers actually work but hell I don’t care yet. I’m just enjoying the ride and I assume all will be revealed so I’m not worrying too much about trying to figure it all out yet.
Anyways I’m off to watch episodes 4 & 5 (I’m really behind on this at the min) and I’ll listen to the next podcast in about 90mins. Take it easy
Thanks so much for the kind words yet again, Brent! They really mean a lot to us, and we’re thrilled that you enjoy listening to our work. I’m interested to hear more of your thoughts on the show as the season goes on! Thanks for taking the time to comment. Much appreciated!
