The Weekly Binge: Blu-ray and DVD Releases for August 14th, 2012

The home video market is flooded with a load of new DVD and Blu-ray releases every single week. The sad fact is that the majority of these releases are not worth your time. So every week I sift through the junk and find the home video releases worth talking about.

Musings On… Movie Confessions Blogathon

The entire premise of Cinefessions is admitting one’s cinematic secrets; those facts that we may be embarrassed to admit (like we haven’t seen Film X, or haven’t seen a film from Director Y). We all have them, and Cinefessions looks to help wash those away, one film at a time. What better way to kick things off here on the new Cinefessions site than posting a full list of my own “movie sins”, as Nostra from My Film Views puts it. Nostra is hosting a Movie Confessions Blogathon, hoping to get those dirty secrets out in the open, and I’m jumping on board with bells on! Continue reading

Disc Deals – Jason Bourne and Dexter are Amazon’s DOTW

Just in time for the new set of Bourne films to hit theatres, Amazon is offering the “original trilogy” blu-ray collection – The Bourne Trilogy – for $27.99, $31.99 (53%) off the $59.98 MSRP. This trilogy, from Universal Studios, contains all the Jason Bourne films (played by Matt Damon): The Bourne Identity (2002), The Bourne Supremacy (2004), and The Bourne Ultimatum (2007). There also looks to be a large amount of special features on the 3-disc set: Continue reading

Musings On… Criterion Sale-ing 2012

Almost one year ago, I wrote about my purchases during the July, 2011 Barnes and Noble/Criterion Collection sale. I ended up taking my collection from 12 Criterion titles, to 31 Criterion releases, and picked up some cinematic gems, to say the least. Last summer, though, I had a great job that was paying me more than I ever made in my life, and thus, had cash to spare. That couldn’t be further from the way I am this summer, a recent Masters of Fine Arts grad, searching for work, but I still had to take advantage of my favorite sale of every year. Continue reading

Disc Deals – Hannibal Lecter and MacGyver are Amazon’s DOTW

For the third – possibly fourth – time since I have been following Amazon’s deals of the week, The Hannibal Lecter Blu-ray Collection from MGM is on sale. This is one of their best sellers when it goes on sale (I know this because it was one of the sales during their “best deals of the year” week they had last year, which put four of their most popular Deal of the Week promotions back on sale), which is why they probably keep pushing it out there. I could be wrong, but I believe this is the lowest the set has ever been, coming in at $14.99, $25.00 (63%) off the $39.99 MSRP. Continue reading
